Tom Hollander, from the Patterns and Practices Group at Microsoft, writes why your customers will love agile (even if they think they hate it). The Agile process is fairly new in my company and one of the challenges is to raise awareness of the benefits for groups outside of engineering.
Some key points from Tom’s post:
- Customers may fear agile projects because they are used to being promised a fixed scope on a fixed date with a fixed budget, but agile projects never promise this.
- An agile project requires as much, if not more, discipline as waterfall projects. It’s a much different type of discipline though.
- The role of product management is critical for an agile project.
- A customer will have to make important decisions throughout the project.
- An agile project has more chance of delivering business value.
Resisting the iPhone February 25, 2008

Tim Jarrett writes about LinkedIn releasing an iPhone UI and I am starting to wonder how much longer I can resist the iPhone. I have wanted a mobile internet device combined with a phone for a long time.
Years ago I purchased a Dell Axim x51v. It’s still a great mobile device, but I have stopped carrying it and should probably sell it. It handled everything I wanted it to, but I was annoyed that I had to carry it along with my traditional phone.
Last year (about 3 months before the iPhone came out) I needed to switch mobile phone carriers. After much research, I determined that Verizon was the carrier I wanted to switch to. I knew the iPhone was about to be launched, but had some bad history with Cingular/AT&T.
I bought a Pantech PN-820. I thought I could live with the small screen and terrible music player interface. I was WRONG. Although I have stopped carrying the Dell Axim with me, I never use the PN-820 for anything other than a phone or simple contact management.
When does the iPhone/AT&T arrangement end? I guess I will keep waiting..

Scott Guthrie blogs about the first public beta of Silverlight 2 and mentions plans to support Silverlight on Linux. Official support of Linux? I hope he is not talking about the Mono project.
Our new Windows client, built using WPF, has been released and we will soon start planning for a new multi-platform Web client. Can we consider utilizing Silverlight? I can’t wait to see what Scott has in store for us.
